French Montana is probably facing a nightmare right now. We all know that album leaks happen all the time ahead of the official release dates but the frequency has decreased over the last year or so, ever since digital releases became the priority for artists and labels.
French Montana is in a whole different situation though. On Tuesday evening, he surprised everyone by announcing on Twitter that he has decided to push back the release of his sophomore album MC4 due to “sample clearance” issues.
The album was originally supposed to release just two days later on night of Thursday, August 18th. “I want to apologize to my fans that are waiting, I want to make sure the album is something special,” wrote French in his tweet.

The new date listed by multiple retailers is October 14th which is almost two months away. But reports of a few stores including Target having the album on the shelves already began to surface yesterday. A twitter user named Bradendove even clicked a photo of the CD from the store which led to the talk that the album might leak any day online. That has really happened today as multiple file sharing sites started hosting the entire album — yes all 14 songs in their proper quality on their servers.
Due to some sample clearances that are still being worked out, I have to move the album release date. – FM #MC4

This situation sucks for French who was due to release the album after a new deal with Bad Boy/Epic Records. He promised yesterday that to make up for the delay, he will add extra tracks to the album. But the damage has been done and there’s no chance of undoing it now.
