Cortez Bryant Reveals Details Behind Lil Wayne-Cash Money War & ‘Tha Carter V’ Delay

lil-wayne-cortez

By now, we all know about Lil Wayne’s ongoing war with Cash Money Records about unpaid royalties which are supposedly around the $51 million mark.

The battle has led to frustration not just for Lil Wayne but fans as well, since it has resulted in stalling of Tha Carter V. Weezy has threatened retirement already on his social media and promised that he will never work with Birdman again, even if the situation is fixed.

But what about Tha Carter V? Lil Wayne’s longtime manager Cortez Bryant was a guest on the Rap Radar podcast where he spoke in detail about the issues with Birdman and Slim’s label for the first time.

Tez reveals that after the ‘Believe Me’ single became a hit, they had struck a deal with Google where the plan was to put out the album for free. But Cash Money did not understand it well and rejected the deal. He also talks about how the money problem with Cash Money started, Weezy talking about retirement, managing Nicki Minaj and much more.

“We had a deal cut with Google where they were going to back the album and put it out for free. When I presented it to Slim & Baby, they didn’t get it and the label was against it.”

Watch Cortez talk about the situation below and listen to the full 90 minutes interview here.
