Kanye West has reached an agreement to buy “uncancelable free speech platform” Parler, the two announced in a statement Monday.
Parler has agreed to sell all of its assets to Kanye as part of the agreement, the financial terms of which were not made public. However, Parlement Technologies will continue to provide technical support for the social network, including access to its private cloud services and data centre infrastructure. The transaction should be completed in the current quarter.
“In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” said Ye in a statement. He has been critical of Meta and Twitter of censoring his views on their respective platform in recent times.
“This deal will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech. Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again. Once again, Ye proves that he is one step ahead of the legacy media narrative. Parlement will be honored to help him achieve his goals,” said Parlement Technologies CEO George Farmer.
Parler, which is seen as a shelter for conservatives and has drawn supporters of the previous president Donald Trump, returned to the Google Play Store this month after being removed for its involvement in inciting violence after the Capital riots in January 2021 by Google.
