As we sit here and mourn the unexpected passing of the icon and my favorite artist of all time, Prince, it is also our duty to celebrate his storied life.
Personally speaking, he was the first artist I became a true fan of, even before I hit my teens as my elder brother worship him and played his music all day in the house. His untimely death has truly affected me in a way that can not be put in words.
As we all know, Prince was currently on his ‘Piano & A Microphone’ tour across the country with Atlanta being his last stop before canceling a couple of dates in wake of his health.
The legend performed some of his classics in this rare format during his tour and below is audio of him doing ‘Purple Rain’ and Kiss’ in crisp quality. He also performed piano covers of Ray Charles’ ‘Unchain My Heart’ and David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’. All of them are recordings from his February 28th show in Oakland, except for ‘Heroes’ which took place just last week during his last show on April 14th in Atlanta.
Rest in heaven to the greatest musician of all time.
P made his last stop at the iconic Minneapolis record store, the Electric Fetus on Saturday in support of Record Store Day. According to Bob Fuchs, the store’s retail music manager, these were his last 6 purchases:
1) Stevie Wonder, “Talking Book”
2) Chambers Brothers, “The Time Has Come”
3) Joni Mitchell, “Hejira”
4) Swan Silvertones, “Inspirational Gospel Classics”
5) Missing Persons, “The Best Of Missing Persons”
6) Santana, “Santana IV”
