Camryn Howard aka CAM30 (kam-e-oh) impressed everybody with his role playing DJ Speed in the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton. The film directed by F. Gary Gray went on to receive critical acclaim and of course numerous awards including an Academy Award nomination for “Best Original Screenplay”.
He’s now trying his hand at music with a new song/video ‘Lessons’ which HHNM is premiering today. ‘Lessons’ is lifted from Howard’s short film Requiem For Remorse that’s been hitting the independent film festival circuit this year (see poster below).
“Music and film have been a part of my life since I can remember,” recalls CAM30 in a statement to HHNM via email. “One memorable moment for me was Michael Jackson’s ‘Moonwalker’ particularly the ‘Smooth Criminal’ video. My neighbors who barely spoke English showed me the movie and image of Michael dancing with a machine gun. That left a lasting impression on me because it blended film with music at a time where it wasn’t seen or done before.”
