Beefs in the days of social media are something else. That’s why it’s often said that the old rules of rap battles can sometimes not be applied in 2018.
There has been a lot of controversy around the photo of Drake wearing a black face that Pusha T discovered from 2008. He used it for the artwork for his Drake diss ‘The Story of Adidon‘. Since then, Drizzy has released a statement about the photo in question: “This picture is from 2007, a time in my life where I was an actor and I was working on a project that was about young black actors struggling to get roles, being stereotyped and type cast. The photos represented how African Americans were once wrongfully portrayed in entertainment,” he said.
The photographer who did the photo shoot, David Leyes also seemed to support Drake’s thoughts. But Pusha is not buying the theory. During an appearance on Big Boy’s Neighborhood show on L.A.’s Real 92.3 station this morning (May 31). Pusha T said “that doesn’t change my view at all.. You are silent on all black issues, Drake, you don’t stand for nothing, you don’t say nothing about nothing.” He continued, “you have all the platform in the world. You were so passionate back then? No you weren’t. That’s number one. That’s what I know.”
In the times of platforms like Instagram and Twitter, the die hard fans are often as involved as the artists themselves during a beef. Some fans have now unearthed old tweets from Pusha T dating back to October, 2014 where the rapper expresses frustration at a flight attendant by using racial slurs. “When your black flight attendant is rude to you before he realizes u are in first class… NOW YOU WILL DANCE FOR ME SAMBO!!” he says in the first tweet. He follows it up shortly after: “AND U BETTER CLAP YOUR GODDAMN FEET ON DEMAND YOU MONKEY!!!!!” See both tweets in question below.

These have already not gone well with some fans who are calling out the G.O.O.D. Music president for using offensive terms such as “monkey” and “sambo” towards the black person involved.
Y’all was tryna get Jessie Woo outta here yesterday for calling black women brown roaches, but Pusha calling a black flight attendant a monkey and telling him to dance for him is cool? Got it 👌🏿
