Anderson .Paak’s last album Oxnard, which featured major contributions from Dr. Dre, received mixed reactions from fans but he’s ready to put it in the past and move on to his next project, Ventura.
Last month, the talented musician revealed that the album will hit stores April 5th so we were expecting him to kick start the campaign soon. He has unveiled his first single ‘King James’ today which has the groove reminiscent of the sound that fans fell in love with from the singer-rapper. Listen to it/preview below (currently only out in select international markets).
“I wanted to keep it as incubated as I could ’cause I wanted to keep the vibes with how we felt at the time,” he recently told Esquire about Ventura. “I didn’t want to over-produce, I didn’t want to start second-guessing it, I didn’t want to drive myself crazy. I drove myself crazy with Oxnard. That was almost why I was like, I’m about to put [Ventura] over to the side now, like a ‘break in case of emergency.'”
.Paak has also shared the official tracklist for the album via the iTunes pre-order (it will go live at midnight worldwide). The album features the likes of Andre 3000, Brandy, Smokey Robinson and the late Nate Dogg. Yes, we can already picture the soul.
