When Royce 5’9″ took shots at Yelawolf in his song ‘Over Comer‘, a lot of fans were surprised as we didn’t know the history behind their issue.
“Yelawolf this is your first and your last pass / I ain’t gon put it on blast, your punk ass know what this about,” Royce rapped on the Westside Gunn-featured track that is set to appear on his forthcoming album The Allegory. Yelawolf had reacted to the lines by posting a photo on his Instagram with the caption “Yo @Eminem get your hype man before the wolves do.. I ain’t worried” but he later took it down.
Although there has been a hint that racism was a reason why Royce name dropped the former Shady Records rapper, now DJ Vlad from Vlad TV has given some context to the situation during his chat with Lord Jamar. Citing a source who gave him “permission to talk about it,” the media personality explains that Yelawolf’s along with his DJ’s use of the N-word around one of Royce’s proteges was what triggered it.
“I have permission to talk about it,” Vlad says, beginning at the 3 minute mark in the clip below. “This is what I heard. Apparently, Royce sent one of his proteges to work with Yelawolf, I guess out in Alabama. Yelawolf had a white DJ, and the kid who went out there was black. And Yelawolf had a white DJ and he started using the n-word around this guy. When the guy went and complained to Yelawolf, Yelawolf said you just need to take it. And, if you want to work with us, you’re gonna need to basically tolerate us using the n-word with the hard r.”
He continued telling the story without naming that particular artist who reportedly faced it: “And during the conversation, Yelawolf was using the n-word with the hard r. And when the information got back to Royce, that triggered the diss.”
