Ladies and gentlemen welcome back to yet another edition of the Saturday Spotlight!
Hip-Hop has introduced the world to the most skilled, talented, and ruthless artists to ever grace a mic. Whether you’re rapping about the streets and city lights around you like Nas, personal growth and struggle like Eminem, or the art of the crack game like Hov — Hip-Hop is ultimately about reigning supreme in a landscape where your hunger is the tool that will eventually guide you to success.
As we enter our third week on the Saturday Spotlight, the talent pool is steadily increasing as we’re now receiving more than 70 submissions each wek. The young artists who’re submitting to us are showing a hunger that is reminiscent of 50 Cent and his infamous mixtape days. It’s unapologetic, inspired, and the diligence behind the music itself is stunning. For these artists, the canvas is blank — they have nothing to lose and the world is theirs for the taking. In order to make it in this industry, you have to ask yourself — what’re you willing to give up to make it? Sacrifice, time, and patience — that is the mantra of a young artist looking to make it.
So far, we’ve seen 3DM, Jinx Da Rebel, King P, and David Tropp come out as the prestigious winners in the last two installments. These artists have hit every criterion of a breakout star that we’re looking for. The question is: do you have what it takes? Whether you’re an emcee who started spitting last week, a veteran of the game, a producer, or a singer — we want you to throw your hats in the ring. So… Pull up.
Tarik
Introducing first, we have another artist from Brooklyn, New York — the current Capital of Drill music — his name is Tarik. Tarik has moved place to place throughout New York’s five Burroughs, originally hailing from Queens. His style is explosive, with his flow as free-forming as a body of water. Using his energetic, yet fast-paced delivery, Tarik uses swagger and wit to add a punch to every bar spit. On “Madonna”, he raps: “Options… that’s what you get when you poppin’”, the line is served cold with the zest of confidence to garnish. Check out his track, “Madonna” below:
Posh
This brings us to our first international pick; hailing from the United Kingdom, we introduce to the world, Posh! Posh is a rapper brimming with talent and potential. With his cutthroat technical prowess shown with his machine-gun-like delivery, Posh exhibits influences from UK Grime as well as melodic trap music. Rapping with precision, Posh turned heads with his “Bl@ckbox Freestyle” where every word is delivered with complete mastery. He spits: “Not a sidekick, but I’m psychic with it / now chicks wanna read my Ora (aura) I’m Rita”
What’s interesting is, he can sing pretty well so be ready for a lot of range. Check out his tracks/videos, ‘Bl@ckbox Freestyle’ and ‘Good Enough’ below.
