Dr. Dre is getting ready for the premiere of his documentary series starring him and Jimmy Iovine called Defiant Ones which debuts tonight (July 9) on HBO (watch a trailer here). The four part series directed by Allen Hughes (Menace II Society) will follow the success story of the unlikely pair who created history with their successful partnership with Aftermath Records, discovering Eminem, collaborating on Beats Electronics and then eventually selling that brand to Apple.
But looks like the super producer has also been in the studio working on music. There are already reports that he’s recording new stuff for Eminem’s upcoming new album. Allen Hughes revealed the news during an interview with Uproxx: “Dre still records,” Hughes said. “People don’t know this: Dre records every day. Literally, he’s in there recording songs every day. He’s like Picasso in that way. He’s always painting. Right now he’s producing, in the 11th hour, a track for Eminem’s latest album. So Dre’s still real active in music, you know? But I hear what you’re saying. It’s the truth.”
Em is not the only person he’s been in the studio with lately, it appears. Dre was also recently spotted in the lab with none other than J. Cole. A photo of them along with King Mez (second from left) and a few others has been doing the rounds on social media but it isn’t yet established where it originated from. Where ever it came from, we hope Cole and Dre did something together as the combination sounds exciting already.
