Early last year, Yasiin Bey had announced that a new Black Star album with Madlib was in the works. The rapper told the news to fans during Madlib’s show in Denver, Colorado.
Since then, we have not heard anything about the project nor any new music. But on Wednesday, Talib Kweli revealed some good news to fans on Ebro’s Beats 1 show on Apple Music. The rapper was calling into the show while DJ Premier was promoting the new Gang Starr album, One of The Best Yet. He makes a guest appearance on the track ‘Business or Art’.
“So, Black Star Madlib is a thing?” Ebro asks while speaking to Talib. “Yes. That’s a confirmed thing; I listen to it all the time,” he jokingly responds. But further down the chat, Talib confirms the new Black Star album produced by Madlib is really done but they haven’t figured out how they want to put it out. “This project with Madlib is done,” he said. “We just trying to figure out when and how to release it.”
Black Star have only released one studio album so far in Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star way back in 1998 which till date remains one of the standout Hip-Hop LPs in history. Hopefully, the sophomore set is coming soon.
