UPDATE (April 8): It has been officially announced that YouTube will stream the film exclusively during the live telecast of the festival. The exact date is not revealed but we’re guessing it’s April 13th.
YouTube will also host weekend 2 of the fest for the first time on their platform. The news about Guava Island premiering during Coachella was posted by YouTube on their website a few hours ago but the mention has since been edited out.
Previous story (April 5):
If you remember, Childish Gambino and Rihanna shot a mysterious film project in Cuba last year and according to the trailer, it was directed by Hiro Murai, who also helmed the hit TV series Atlanta and Gambino’s much talked about ‘This Is America’ video.
Now it looks like the project, which is apparently titled Guava Island, may get released as soon as next weekend, perhaps during Coachella. Fans over the past few days noticed some ads on Spotify mentioning the project. Their popular RapCaviar playlist is also being “presented by Guava Island” with one of the ads featuring audio of Gambino singing over guitar before he says, “I’ll see you at the show, everyone.”
that Guava Island ad on Spotify is definitely real. reddit has all the tea pic.twitter.com/eFrOs1hw9y

The film involves Rihanna but it is unclear if she contributed to the music as well. One ad also mentions “April 13th” which is a day after Donald Glover is set to perform at Coachella. Could this be a special release around the time? It is certainly possible but to confirm, we have reached out to his reps for a comment.
In February, Gambino debuted a new song in a Google Pixel 3 commercial.
