Last time I wrote a Play It On The Radio post, it was January, 2013. I have decided to bring the series back from hiatus and this time, I’m not going away. The fourth quarter is upon us which means things on the radio are starting to get hot again. How’s Eminem’s brand new single ‘Berzerk’ performing? What’s the update on Kanye’s latest single ‘Bound 2‘? What are the forthcoming releases? Find out all in the 41st edition of PIOTR.
RHYTHMIC:
– Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ continues to reign on the charts, but this week, its lead is less than 200 spins from Jay-Z’s ‘Holy Grail’ feat. Justin Timberlake.
– J. Cole’s ‘Crooked Smile’ is top 5 this week at #3 while Drake’s ‘Hold On We’re Going Home’ also reaches #5 with gain of 700 spins. It’s the 2nd highest gainer after Eminem’s ‘Berzerk’.
– Eminem’s single is making big moves on the chart, now already at the #21 position.
– Rich Gang’s ‘Tapout’ takes the biggest fall this week, losing 450 spins and dropping to #24.
– Nelly’s ‘Get Like Me’ is showing signs of stalling as the single is up just 9 spins from last week, it’s not at the #25 position. B.o.B’s ‘Headband’ has a similar story (#31 this week).
– Migos’ ‘Versace’ featuring Drake is hot in the streets and on the internet but it’s hardly doing anything on this format. Up just 80 spins this week and landing at 43.
– Jay-Z’s ‘Tom Ford’ enters the format at #44. Maybe they will push this as a single but there’s no confirmation yet.
Top adds:
Eminem – ‘Berzerk’ (35)
Lorde – ‘Royals’ (13)
Robin Thicke – ‘Give It 2 U’ (Feat. Kendrick Lamar & 2 Chainz) (9)
Sage The Gemini – ‘Gas Pedal’ (9)
August Alsina – ‘I Luv This Sh*t’ (7)
New adds:
Ariana Grande – ‘Right There’ (Feat. Big Sean) (Sept 10)
B5 – ‘Say Yes’ (Sept 10)
URBAN:
– Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ is number 1 on this format too but J. Cole’s ‘Crooked Smile’ and Jay-Z’s ‘Holy Grail’ are close on the heels at #2 and #3, respectively.
– 2 Chainz’ ‘Feds Watching’ does enter the top 5 this week at #5 but it’s up less than 10 spins so we expect it to slide from next week onwards.
– Rich Homie Quan’s ‘Type Of Way’ continues to gain momentum, this week rising to he #7 position.
– French Montana’s ‘Ain’t Worried About Nothin’ did well on this format but it’s down more than 200 spins this week, landing at #10 spot.
– Drake’s ‘Hold On We’re Going Home’ is doing well on Urban as well. This week, it’s up 300 spins to reach the #12 spot.
– DJ Khaled’s ‘No New Friends’ slides from 13 to 16 this week while his new single ‘I Wanna Be With You’ is yet to enter the chart.
– Future’s ‘Honest’ and Sage The Gemini’s’ ‘Red Nose’ are the biggest gainers this week at #23 and #33, respectively.
– Jay-‘s ‘F*uckwithmeyouknowigotit’ is setting some spins on this format. It’s gained over a 100 spins and reached the #38 spot. Will they push it as a promo single on Urban? We’ll soon find out.
– One very evident development to note is that Eminem’s ‘Berzerk’ has been added by almost no Urban stations and therefore hasn’t even entered the chart yet. Historically, Urban stations have always shied away from supporting Em. On the other hand, the single up more than a 1000 spins on Top 40 and already reached the #31 spot.
