Both of Kendrick’s previous singles ‘i‘ and ‘The Blacker The Berry‘ made noise when released for very different reasons.
‘i’ marked his return to music following a long break after the release of good kid, m.A.A.d city and it garnered a mixed reaction from fans. Some praised its effortless feel-good vibes whilst others dismissed it as an attempt at gaining radio play. ‘The Blacker The Berry’ came at a time where it caused people to become self-reflective and its aggressive but truthful nature spoke to people. It was obviously not meant for the radio.
Now, Kendrick Lamar has picked the next single from To Pimp A Butterfly — ‘King Kunta‘, produced by Sounwave which is impacting radio stations across the country as we speak. The song samples ‘Get Nekkid‘ by Mausberg and much was heard about it before its release, especially after the full version leaked a few days before the album.
How do you think the song will do at radio?
