The biggest news maker this week is probably Lady Gaga who shot straight to the top spot on Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Born This Way’, making it the 1000th No.1 single in Billboard’s history. The single sold 448k copies in just 4 days and started with a 78.5 million audience on the radio, the highest ever since tally began incorporating all radio formats in December 1998.
But that’s on the Pop side. Let’s see who was hot and who was not this past week as far as Black Music is concerned with the 30th edition of Play It In The Radio.
Rhythmic:
– Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Black & Yellow’ is no.1 for the 2nd week in a row.
– He’s closely trailed by Bruno Mars’ ‘Grenade’, Rihanna’s ‘What’s My Name’ feat. Drake and Jeremih’s ‘Down On Me’ feat. 50 Cent.
– Nicki Minaj’s ‘Moment 4 Life’ with Drake enters the top 5 at 5 for the first time while her boss Lil Wayne rises to No.6 with ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’.
– Mann’s ‘Buzzin’ jumps to No. 13 and Kanye enters the top 20 at 17 this week with ‘All Of The Lights’.
– Lupe Fiasco’s ‘The Show Goes On’ show steady growth cementing its place at No.25.
– Dr. Dre’s hate it or love it single ‘I Need A Doctor’ enters the charts at 31 while his previous single ‘Kush’ lands at 33 from its last week’s no. 35 position.
– Trey Songz’ ‘Love Faces’ makes an entry at no.37 and Nelly’s ‘Gone’ enters at 38.
– Top Adds:
– New Adds (this week & next week):
Black Eyed Peas – ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’
Jay Sean – ‘Hit The Lights’
Eminem – ‘Space Bound’
Mike Posner – ‘Bow Chicka Wow Wow’ (feat. Lil Wayne)
Katy Perry – ‘E.T.’ (feat. Kanye West)
Big Time Rush – ‘Boyfriend’ (feat. Snoop Dogg)
Urban:
– Nicki Minaj’s takes the top spot this week with her hit ‘Moment 4 Life’.
– She’s closely followed by Lil Wayne’s ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’, Jamie Foxx’s ‘Fall For Your Type’ and Keri Hilson’s ‘Pretty Girl Rock’, in that order.
– Chris Brown makes a huge leap in his 2nd week as ‘Look At Me Now’ lands at no.10.
– R&B heartthrobs Jeremih and Bobby V are at no. 13 & 14 with ‘Down On Me’ and ‘Words’, respectively.
– Kanye West & Jay-Z’s ‘HAM’ is struggling at no. 20, up only one spot from last week. While Kanye’s solo single ‘All of The Lights’ is also stalled at no. 17. I’ve been saying this forever, ‘AOTL’ is dope but not radio friendly.
– DJ Khaled’s ‘Welcome To My Hood’ rises to no.22 and Waka Flocka’s new single ‘Grove St. Party’ follows at no. 23.
– Lupe’s ‘The Show Goes On’ is stagnant at 34 but Lloyd Banks’ makes an impressive entry at 37 with ‘I Don’t Deserve You’ feat. Jeremih.
– Top Adds:
– New Adds (this week & next week)
Troop 41 – ‘Do The John Wall’
Ace Hood – ‘Hustle Hard’
Jim Jones – ‘Perfect Day’ (feat. Chink Santana & Logic)
K’La – ‘All Your Love’
Rihanna – ‘S&M’
